From the Halo 2 Manual (Human Version): Not as readily understood as Elites, Brutes fight
together in a pack and are physically stronger. Brutes demonstrate similar battlefield abilities to Elites, and their numbers
have demonstrably increased since the conflict began. They carry a ballistic explosive weapon with an attached bayonet device.
From
the Halo 2 Manual (Covenant Version): The newest ally to join the embrace of our flock is a powerful fighter indeed. The
Jiralhanae [Brutes] are endowed with prodigious physical strength, and their simian origin makes them idea l for missions
in any enviornment. We shall deploy them against humans in the same instances as the Sanghelli [Elites], but we may also give
the Jiralhanae some increased security responsibilities in this conflict.
The Brute, known as Jiralhanae to the Covenant, is a completely new unit. Part bear, part
ape, and all killing machine, the Brute makes a fearsome enemy. Although it lacks an energy shield like the Elites', it is
a force to be reckoned with because of its sheer physical strength. Two of the game's weapons, the Brute Shot and the Brute
Plasma are wielded exclusively by this race.
From the Halo 2 Manual (Human Version): Like the Brutes, Drones appear to be new additions
to Covenant fighting forces and are being deployed en masse. Apparently insectoid in origin, in addition to maintaining Covenant
spaceships, they have a limited ability to fly and are excellent shots. Highly intelligent, their mastery of antigravity flight
assistance has given them an almost insurmountable strategic advantage in combat.
From the Halo 2 Manual (Covenant
Version): Suited for flight and fighting in this planet's gravity, the Yanme'e [Drones] will be a valuable inclusion to
our forces. The Humans are unused to fighting aerial infantry. The Yanme'e will use their ability to fly to gain ground and
provide accurate cover fire for other troops.
The Covenant have a new ally on their side -- the buzzing, erratically-flying Drone. While some consider the Drone, known
as Yanme'e to the Covenant, to be a spoiler for Halo 2, the character has made appearances on Bungie.net and the official
Halo2.com promotional site. Drones have the ability to fly, snipe, and generally annoy UNSC Marines (who refer to them as
"buggers".) It's best to take Drones down quickly, to prevent being shot from above while waiting for Master Chief's shields
to recharge.

There are a few varieties of the Elite, but all are roughly 8' 6" tall and incredibly strong. Their strength allows
them to rely on brute force when necessary, but they're quite capable of brilliant battlefield tactics as well. Their natural
resilience is augmented with full-body energy shielding which recharges when depleted. They wield plasma pistols, plasma rifles,
grenades and needlers.
The Elites will undoubtedly be back as your most feared Covenant opponent. The Elites will be able to make cover,
as well as destroy it. Once again, there will probably several "ranks" of Elites, defined by color. The feared Sword-Elites
will also be present, as seen in the Halo 2 E3 demo. And don't forget about the invisible Elites, who are just waiting
to club you in the back.
The Elites are back, smarter and faster than ever, so never let your guard down.
From the Halo 2 Manual (Human Version): The basic infantry unit of the Covenant, Grunts are
dangerous in groups but present little threat individually. Short, stocky, and relatively slow, they will often panic when
faced with superior forces. However, if they are being led by an Elite, they will stand and fight.
From the Halo
2 Manual (Covenant Version): Stout and numerous, the Unggoy [Grunts] long have been the lifeblood of out Covenant's infantry.
They will obey and order in the service of their duty and fight well with plasma pistol, turret, or in vehicles. Unggoy will
as ever fight well with their comrades the Kig-yar [Jackals], and obey the directives of the Sanghelli [Elites].
The funny but occasionally dangerous Grunts, known as Unggoy to the Covenant, are back in
Halo 2. However, the Grunts aren't simply cannon fodder this time, and should be feared in numbers. Because of the new AI
in Halo 2, Grunts will be able to call for back up, as well as a give it. But as in Halo: Combat Evolved wipe a group of Grunts
out as fast as you can, and you'll have no problems.
From the Halo 2 Manual (Human Version): Excellent shots, the Jackals seem to be higher in
status—if not necessarily rank—than the Grunts. They often will be found in defensive positions, fighting
from behind their distinctive energy shields. A well used shield makes a Jackal a difficult target, but the notch they use
to return fire provides a weak spot that can be exploited.
From the Halo 2 Manual (Covenant Version): Slight
of build as they are, the Kig-yar [Jackals] remain a valuable fighting force. Excellent shots, and with their shields nearly
invulnerable, the Kig-yar offer a great tactical advantage i ground combat. Faster and taller than the Unggoy [Grunts], they
complement each other very well.
The Jackals, known as Kig-yar to the Covenant, are back in Halo 2 in their support role. Once again, they are the most
annoying enemies to the player, since they actually take some time to kill. However, with the new dual weapon system in Halo
2, their removal is a little easier. Hit them with a charge blast, and finish them off with a few rounds from the Sub Machine
Gun. As if you needed another reason to hate Jackals, they can now snipe with the Covenant Beam Rifle. |

From the Halo 2 Manual (Human Version): Little intel is available on these creatures. We know
that they are administrative or religious in nature and have little to do with actual battlefield circumstances. None has
ever been killed or captured, and they appear to be few in number.
From the Halo 2 Manual (Covenant Version): Our
guiding light and the directors of our purpose. They are father to the children of our Covenant, and they will lead us to
truth and to perfection. The Prophets of Truth, Mercy, and Regret will navigate us through the task that awaits us.
The Prophets are the leading class of the Covenant society. The lower classes do whatever the Prophets say, because the
Prophets are able to communicate with "the gods." The Prophets ride on a hovering platform, probably propelled by the same
type of systems as the Covenant Ghost. Little is known about the Prophets to date, and more information will be added as it
becomes available.
